525,600 Minutes- What Will You Do with Yours?

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” ~ Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

My mother once told me that the older I get, the faster time will go.  She was right about that, as she was with so many other things.  As another year draws to a close, I pause to wonder why that is the case.

Twenty-four hours in 2016 is the exact same amount of time it was in 1986 when I was in my teens.  So, why then, does it seem like time goes by so much more quickly as we age?

gods_clockThey say that “time flies when you’re having fun,” but when I reflect on my life, I find the opposite to be true.  When I was in my teens and twenties, my life was all about having fun.  My life today, while certainly enjoyable, is filled more with work and family responsibilities than it is with “fun,” yet time seems to elude me.

So, maybe the opposite is true, that time flies when you don’t make time for fun?  Whatever it is, I know that the older I get the more I want time to slow down so I can enjoy it and live it to the fullest.  God’s Word tells us that our lives are like a mere vapor, here today and gone tomorrow.  (James 4:14 NKJV) I don’t know about you but I want to make the most of every minute in the coming year!

In the past, I have made New Year’s Resolutions which were broken before the calendar flipped to February.  Therefore, I have but one “resolution” for 2017 and that is to seek God first in my life, above all other people, things and events.  His Word tells us that if we seek His Kingdom above all else, He will provide us with all we need.

God knows what I need before I’m ever even aware of the lack in my life.  I don’t know what my needs will be in 2017 with the exception of one.

I will need God, every minute of every day in 2017.

As 2016 comes to an end, I thank God for all of the blessings He has provided for me and my family these past 365 days.  I thank Him for being my rock and my source of peace in times of trouble.

God gives each of us 525,600 minutes every year to do with as we wish.  He does not force us to do or not do anything.  Time is His gift to us, and what we do with it, is our gift back to Him.

May God bless you abundantly in the New Year, with good health, peace and prosperity. Above all, I pray that at this time next year, you and I will be closer in our relationship to Christ because we used our time in 2017 seeking Him above all else.
